I am looking to purchase a first table saw and going to take a look at a craftsman model 315.228390 this weekend. I have heard a lot of craftsman table saws have goofy undersize miter slots, but this is a pretty substantial contractor saw with a heavy cast iron top, not a light-weight “portable” with a stamped or aluminum top. The miter bar's adjustment range accommodates actual slot widths between 0.740' and 0.765' and is designed for 3/4' wide x 3/8' deep square-sided miter slots, with or without a 15/16' T-slot at the bottom. The Shopsmith version fits only the 0.719' x 5/16' slot size and is not compatible with the Shopsmith 10ER models. Fits almost any Table Saw or Router Table with a 3/4' x 3/8' Miter Slot Large 30' x 24' work surface features a 'no cut through' design 2 replaceable zero clearance inserts accommodates blades and bits up to 4-1/4' wide Heavy Duty, super safe construction. This table saw does not have the traditional 3/4' x 3/8' miter slot and uses a very odd 5/8' wide T-slot. She will need to either file/sand the miter guage or get an adjustable one. Sears has a long history of making parts that only fit their equipment-after market parts and equipment do not fit. Standard miter slot size is 3/4 by3/8 deep, My new table saw #21807 has 5/8 wide 'T' slot. My jigs no longer fit. Any suggestions where to find 5/8 miter jigs? I don't relish the idea of trying to resize the jigs (INCRA) and some home made. Any manufacture makes 5/8' inch miter sleds etc?

On a table saw, is the distance between the center of the blade and the center of the miter slot standard on all or most saws? Thanks. – Jerry

Tim Inman: NO. Each brand – and sometimes each individual machine! – is different, although they are often close. Each jig you make is unique to the saw you make it for, darn it. Most are 3/4 inch slots, though.

Chris Marshall: Following up on Tim’s answer, here’s a case in point. I have two cabinet saws in the shop right now — a Craftsman and a Delta Unisaw. There’s close consistency between these two saws concerning miter slot placement, but they aren’t identical. The distance between Delta’s slots is 9-15/16 in. (5-1/2 in. from the left slot to the face of the arbor flange on the left and 4-7/16 in. from the flange to the right slot). On the Craftsman, the slots are an even 10 in. apart (5-1/2 in. from the left slot to the flange and 4-1/2 in. from the flange to the right slot). It’s only a 1/16 in. variation, but that can make all the difference when trying to retrofit crosscut sleds and other jigs from one saw to another.

T-Track Cross Points

Our 4 piece T-Track cross points allow you to easily make T-track intersections for many different applications in your workshop. They work especially well on a wooden drill press and bandsaw tables and they can be used to build home made oval jigs or elliptical jigs for cutting circles. Each aluminum section is cut to 1-1/2' length with the ends angled at 90° for a perfect right angle fit. The pieces are predrilled with two holes in each section for mounting. Also includes eight mounting screws.
